So many choices...

I'll be honest, I was not aware of the many types of feminist there are out there. I feel like the majority of people are only aware of the Radical Feminist due to their extreme outlook, which definitely contributes to the stereotypes out there. I don't want to discredit the Radical Feminist because they have some valid points, but from my limited knowledge of feminism (which is pretty much solely based on the things I have learned in this class) they are taking away from the overall message feminist are trying to put out there.
They use childbirth in their argument of oppression towards women. I think that is absolutely ridiculous, childbirth is a beautiful thing that women are lucky to be able to experience and shouldn't be used as an argument of female oppression. Biologically, it's a miracle and something to be proud of as a women, not the cause of women's oppression.

I think it's a good thing that there are so many types. It allows for the many different outlooks to be covered so that women of all backgrounds and experiences can find a place within the feminist community.

  1. I agree with you about the Radical Feminists view of childbirth. I think it is a privilege to be able to have children. At the same time, I understand that there are many places in the world where women are forced to have children regardless if they want them or not, and I think in cases like this childbirth is a kind of repression. Just because we have the ability to have children doesn't mean that should have them.

  2. I got the feeling that it was about not having a choice over their reproduction that was the problem. In addition, it was a very interesting question that the reading posed as to why 'risking one's life' is seen as amazingly admirable, yet 'child birth is considered a normal action.'

  3. I agree that I had no idea about any of the feminist theories; I didn't even know they had theories. I also felt that the Radical Feminist Theory was the most interesting because there will be instances where there will be plenty of controversy. While I felt that the whole notion about children was a little over-the-top, I feel that the theory wanted its viewers to realize the struggle women go through, yet there are no support for those women who suffer.
